We love a bit of romance. Who doesn’t?! But sometimes planning a romantic occasion, like a romantic day out, needs a bit of thought. So here are our top three romantic day trips from Melbourne.
In no particular order, we’d point romance chasers in the direction of the Mornington Peninsula, Daylesford and the Yarra Valley.
Victoria is a romantic at heart and there are a number of regions with romance written all over them. Like the Mornington Peninsula.
Picture this, starting the day with a soak at the Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs in the natural thermal mineral water. Once you are suitably relaxed then start making your way through a number of picturesque wineries, such as Red Hill Estate and T’Gallant. Stop for a gourmet lunch at one of the many beautiful wineries or on the water’s edge in Sorrento.
While you’re in this part of the world then head to the Portsea Pub to finish your day. Here you can enjoy a glass of bubbles overlooking the ocean and watching the sunset. We got married watching the sun go down over Sorrento back beach so when we think romance, we think Mornington Peninsula.
There is no denying the romance levels are high in this part of the world. Daylesford is just under an hour and half from the city and is Victoria’s “Spa Country.” Daylesford and the surrounding regions are home to more than 60 mineral springs. We love Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat where you can unwind in the 37-degree mineral water plunge pool and/or relax on the only soft-pak float beds you’ll find in the Southern Hemisphere.
Head in to Daylesford town which is full of character and charm. You can spend a few good hours strolling the main street hand-in-hand and taking in the galleries, bazaars and antique shops. This is a perfect spot to stop for a coffee and a cake at one of the many gorgeous cafes.
For lunch, do yourself a romantic favour and book in at the Lake House and take in this magnificent setting. It screams romance. It’s not cheap but worth the money.
Right near Daylesford are some other perfect destinations on your romantic day out, such as Lavandula, where you will find 19th century farm houses, lavender fields, olive groves and vineyard. Or pick up some goodies while in Daylesford, and a bottle of bubbles and enjoy these on the beautiful grounds of the Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens.
We’ve written recently about our top tips of things to do in the Yarra Valley, which are pitched at couples and individuals alike, but are also absolutely ideal for a romantic day out.
This is one region where you really want to be able to leave the car behind and together soak in all that the area has to offer romantics like you. At the heart of what the region is food and wine in the most picturesque of settings.
The journey out to the Yarra Valley itself has a touch of romance to it. You wind past many incredible estates in suburbs such as Warrandyte and take in the beauty of Australia’s native flora.
There are plenty of wineries to choose from which will provide you with all that you want and more for a romantic day out such as Sticks, Yering Farm and Oakridge (where we would recommend stopping for a white table cloth lunch). Check out our Yarra Valley wine tour for some inspiration.
Not far from the Yarra Valley is the Dandenong region where you could head for an afternoon Devonshire Tea as you head towards SkyHigh Mount Dandenong for a spectacular view back into Melbourne CBD. This would be the perfect location to take in your last glass of wine or bubbles for the day while enjoying the stunning view and reflecting on your romance!
If you like to leave the car behind and have a guide on hand to take you to all the best spots, especially those that are off the beaten track then get in touch with us today and we will take you on your ideal romantic day trip from Melbourne!
May the romance be with you.
